Almond blossoms are the first tree to bloom in the spring--often during some of the harshest weather. But they do insist on blooming, and their honey sweet blossoms are always swarming with pollinators when the sun is shining.
I was inspired by the light and shadow patterns on the flowers, and their white stamens. It was fun to paint!
Many of the trees and flowers that I grow in my garden were loved as a child. I grew up in almond country, and my dad always made sure that I knew which trees they were. Although we never farmed almonds, we always seemed to have a bag on-hand. Dad loves almonds still, and so do I.
